Nigeria: Rep, Ex-Rep Trade Accusations Over Certificate Forgery

Former House of Representatives member representing Kaga/Gubio/Magumeri Federal Constituency of Borno State Fanta Baba Shehu has accused the incumbent Rep Muhammed A. Sanda Mgamdu of forging his secondary school leaving certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2011 elections.

Mgamdu, however dismissed the allegation as baseless and misleading, saying Fanta should appeal the Federal High Maiduguri ruling which has vindicated him on the matter, adding that she has 14 days to apologise or risk litigation for defamation of character.

Hon. Fanta who was defeated in the 2011 election by Rep. Mgamdu said in a suit file number FHC/MG/CS/27/2011 at a Federal High Court sitting in Maiduguri, that her opponent is not qualified to be in the Federal House, for allegedly presenting a forged secondary school certificate to contest for a House of Assembly seat in 2007.
