Ethiopia: Open, Competitive Service Sector Essential for Sustainable Growth

Thinking big is typical of the ruling EPRDFites. Most of their major achievements since the guerrilla years, including overthrowing one of the most equipped military dictatorships of Africa, the Dergue, has exemplified this approach of dreaming big and acting small.

If there is one sector that reflects this ambition - often considered as naivety - it is the Ethiopian economic sector. Restructuring the war-torn economy of the nation, consolidating it along defined policy lines, creating enough momentum for growth and, indeed, realising growth, were all challenging in their own way. Yet, the EPRDFites have accomplished almost all of these objectives.
