Fifty families have been left homeless after their houses were demolished in Laikipia on Monday night. More than 200 youth armed with arrows and machetes were ferried to the Urumwe Mukaro farm in lorries and tore down the houses.
The families said they bought the land from Urumwe Mukaro self-help group. "We wonder why the officials have sold the land to other people yet we fully paid for it. We do not know where our children will live," said their spokesman, Muchemi Kimathi.
