Zimbabwe: Makamba Negotiates Return

UNITED Kingdom-based Zimbabwean businessman James Makamba is negotiating his return to Harare after years of self-imposed exile, The Financial Gazette can exclusively reveal. A former ZANU-PF central committee member whose business interests span across telecommunications, mining, retail, broadcasting and consultancy, Makamba exited the country in 2005 after being charged with violating the Exchange Control Act. He skipped bail never to return as the State prosecuted him on charges of allegedly externalising £3,7 million, US$2,1 million and R15 million.

But highly-placed sources disclosed this week that the wealthy businessman was negotiating his return to Zimbabwe where he intends to rescue some of his businesses that are currently going through a rough patch.
