Gambia: Voting Day in Serekunda and Lamin Independent Candidate for Lamin Ward Speaks

Voting in the Local Government elections has taken place yesterday, Thursday, 4 April 2013, for the positions of mayor in Banjul and Kanifing Municipality and Councillor in 45 Wards around the country.

According to reporters and observers who went round to some of the polling stations in the Kanifing Municipality, the voters were only coming in trickles to cast their votes. It is to some people as if elections were not taking place. Some queries were lodged by some Independent candidates such as the ones in Banjul who called to complain about supporters and Yai Compins of APRC camping at polling stations. Lamin Village The Independent Candidate for Lamin Ward, Mr Jerreh Sanyang, talking to this Reporter at Lamin, shortly after casting his vote, said his only disappointment was that when he went to a Makumbaya polling station and wanted to know from the presiding officer how many tokens were with him the official refused to disclose the number.
