Gambia: April 10 & 11 Survivor in Limbo -What Is His Future?

Abdul Karim Jammeh, one of the victims of the April 10th 2000 students' demonstrations and still using crutches to walk have called on the Government of the Gambia in particular to assist him and help him with overseas treatment. He said it is over 13 years since they were disabled by bullets and he has been looking for support ever since but is daily becoming a destitute.

Mr Jammeh, a young man said he could not complete his education due to the serious injuries he sustained from a stray bullet. "I'm calling on the president and his entire Government to look into our issue because I really need help. You see I'm still struggling to walk and I'm not employed neither receiving any treatment. I'm hoping to be a responsible man in the future and I should work on it now," said Mr. Karim Jammeh, one of the students who emerged from the tragic incident traumatised. Jammeh said what has happened has happened and he prays for all those who died during this crisis to have eternal rest. But he said for them who sustained injuries, he is calling on the government to provide financial support and opportunities for them to develop their skills to live productive lives.
