Jonas Mungungu Paulus, better known on the stage as Boet, has stamped his authority on the local music scene with his new hit singles, My Life and Onghalamwenyo, featuring his long time friend in music showbiz, Buju Katyoko.
The singles, currently getting impressive airplay on local stations, are a must to listen for all music lovers across the country. The music has the contemporary Hip-Hop and R & B beats fused with a colourful addition on local flavor, most Namibians have come to know and love. My life is a contender for top mention and is currently doing well regarding airplay and response from listeners on Omulunga radio station and NBC's Oshiwambo language service. It has been received well by many listeners from different languages, and as it is also most talked about nowadays in shebeens here..
Many will remember Boet from Oshakati who used to dance and sell CDs and clothes during events, and this made him a darling of many music lovers and events organisers. "I used to dance for the public during some events at Oshakati, and this prompted me to embark on music as a career, hence the release of my two singles. My music has a lot of development and maturity," he says
If Hip Hop music has a future, then Boet is one of the future stars of his genre in Namibia. Although the young performer is separately trying to build a career, he seems to have the vision and musical approach and prowess. He believes in the old style of Hip Hop made popular in the 1990s nu stars like MC Hammer and Bobby Brown, and he is determined to hold onto this genre, which has seen a decline in Namibia since the emergence of popular genres like Kwaito.
Boet is currently putting the final touches to his video titled Stand Up, which looks to pave more avenues for the young and talented musician.
"R & B does not seem to be going anywhere. It has somehow survived three decades, despite that some artists have been deserting it for other sounds, and music genres however, when done properly, it still shakes crowds," Boet tells Art Life.
The 19-year-old is currently working on releasing his debut album by the end of the year. He is also set to realise his dream as he is busy working with renowned artists who are his mentors in this music career like Omsaane, Niihana, Ne-Show, Exit, Maestro and Mushe, among others. In all his skills, Boet is also a lyricists and a songwriter. He composes his own music and writes his verses. Boet was inspired by none other than Bricks, Lily Wayne and J -Z among other R & B artistes. "In 2012, I got into talks with Digital Supa records, who invited me to their studio for rehearsals and auditions. From then, their business relations was established, and the rest shall be revealed in time when I release my debut album," says Boet
Boet has performed in many functions like the popular Ongwediva Trade Fair as a curtain raiser, among other events. He recorded his hit singles at Digital Supa records label in Oshakati and is currently being managed by Chikiza Media group. He is currently studying for a course in Media and Communication with Triumphant College. His video will be released next month at a colourful ceremony in Windhoek.
