Gambia: Mother Arraigned for Alleged Infanticide

One Anna Jatta was Tuesday arraigned before the Special Criminal Court in Banjul, presided over Justice Emmanuel Nkea. The accused is charged with the offence of murder contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

The prosecution alleged that the accused person on or about 10th March 2012 at Sanyang Village, in the West Coast Region, within the jurisdiction of the court, with malice murdered her newly born baby by cutting his head off. While giving her plea, the accused said that she does not know about it and she did not commit the alleged offence. A not guilty plea was entered for the accused person.
