Washington — As many as 3 million children a year worldwide are spared from measles, tetanus, diphtheria and other diseases because they have received immunizations. The global health community celebrates those saved lives in World Immunization Week, but also pushes to expand vaccine programs to an estimated 22 million infants who also need these protections against disease.
World Immunization Week begins on April 20 under the slogan "Protect your world -- get vaccinated." Health organizations everywhere will be emphasizing the effectiveness of vaccination programs and working to retain and expand political and financial support.
