Nigeria: ASUP Declares Seven-Day Nation-Wide Warning Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) has declared a 7-day nation-wide warning strike beginning from April 22, 2013, which will thereafter be followed by an indefinite strike, following the refusal of government to address the union's grievances.

In a communiqué of an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of ASUP held in Abuja on the April 18, and signed by the union's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Clement Chirman, ASUP listed its unresolved issues to include: none constitution of governing councils for Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and Colleges of Technology; none release of government white paper of the visitation panels to the federal polytechnics; and none commencement of the NEED Assessments of the Nigerian Polytechnics.
