A case challenging the management of the Nairobi Coffee Exchange and the regulations governing it has been dismissed. In his ruling, High court Judge David Majanja ruled that the Minister for Agriculture was entitled to act as she did in transferring the management of the NCE to another body.
He said the decision was the result of consultation done in view of the role the body that handles coffee trade in the country plays in the economy. In the case, the Kenya Coffee Producers and Traders Association complained that the changes to the management of the NCE were formulated by a small group of people with vested interests. KCPTA claimed the rules sought to reverse the privatisation of coffee marketing.
