Namibia: Alcohol Abuse Could Cause Cancers

The Ministry of Health and Social Services will develop a policy geared towards the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people affected by alcohol abuse.

Dr Richard Kamwi, the Minister of Health and Social Services said the policy would be adopted during the course of this year. To be effective, said Kamwi, a comprehensive policy should not only incorporate measures to educate the public on the dangers of harmful alcohol use, but it should also look at interventions that focus on treating or punishing those who may be putting at risk their health and safety or that of others.
