Kenya Gets Mixed Results in Poverty Fight

Nairobi, Kenya — Kenya's poverty alleviation efforts are bearing fruits in urban areas. However the situation is not so good in the rural areas according to a recent joint report by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

The report states that rural poverty in Kenya is still rising which is a stark contrast with urban poverty which the document indicates is in steady decline. Overall, the report reveals that Kenya has registered a marginal improvement in living standards. However, Kenya has more poor people compared to its next door neighbor Uganda despite the former having a higher GDP.'Rural populations in sub-Saharan Africa continue to register high poverty volumes. Globally however, there is a general reduction in urban poverty levels,' reads part of the report.
