Somalia: British Diplomat Appointed to Replace Mahiga

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed British diplomat Nicholas Kay to replace UN Special Representative to Somalia Augustine Mahiga on June 3rd, the United Nations announced in a press release Monday (April 29th).

Kay is currently Africa director at the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Kay previously served as ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2007 to 2010, and to the Sudan from 2010 to 2012. In 2006 and 2007, he was the United Kingdom's Regional Co-ordinator for Southern Afghanistan and Head of the Provincial Reconstruction Team for Helmand Province.

Ban thanked Mahiga for his contribution to the re-building and restoration of Somalia.
