Okello Oculi now speaks of a third reason for the summit, this being a special focus on the girl-student. According to him "It was important to target the girl student. We confronted the situation and forced the female student to come out and face the fact that women do have leadership roles to play in society, both locally and nationally, and within the global arena." He also speaks of two meetings which seemed to have played a role in preparing him for the idea of an O.A.U. Summit mainly acted out by students. First of these was a meeting with U Thant, one time Secretary-General of the UN, when he (Okello) was a student at Stanford University in America.
