Nigeria: Our Fears As the Demolition Squad Storms Bwari

It was with great shock and disbelief that we the people of Bwari town especially those residing in the area known as the Bwari indigene extension along SCC Road woke up on April 24, 2013, and saw our houses being marked for demolition by staff of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council. We had no prior notice.

No staff of AMMC that were accompanied by heavily armed and stern looking soldiers was willing to offer us any explanation as to why the houses were being marked for demolition, considering the fact the area in question is one reserved for indigene extension. The area is an ancestral home of our forefathers who lived there for centuries and had shifted to the present Bwari location. Because of population growth, there was need to go back because extension to that same area for dwelling to accommodate the present generation.
