Mendefera — The Cooperative Dairy Farmers' Associations in the Southern region indicated that it is striving to raise output through enhancing organizational efficiency. It made the statement at a meeting during which it was stated that the Associations have jointly managed to ensure a surplus milk production, thus supplying remarkable quantity to the Central region.
Mr. Niguse Haile, Chairman of the Cooperative Associations, disclosed that it has planted milk packing and animal feed factories in Mendefera and Dekemhare, and that the members own a total of 11,000 cattle, yielding more than 16 million liters of milk annually. He further indicated that members of the Associations are selling their products on the basis of 8 retail outlets in Mendefera, Segeneiti, Debarwa, Adi-Quala and Dekemhare respectively, besides their green feed harvest from more than 253 hectares.
Mr. Bahta Tedros, head of the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the region, said that dairy Associations in the region are playing exemplary role, and that the increasing number of new buffalo and other breeds attests to this.
In closing remarks, Mr. Tesfatsion Girmai, the region's head of economic development, called on the Associations to keep intact their comparative advantages and put up more efforts to attain higher level of production.
