MRC members (file photo): Hundreds of MRC supporters took to Mombasa's streets to celebrate a High Court ruling that overturned a government ban on the group.

Deputy President William Ruto yesterday chaired a security meeting in his office to assess the security situation in the country. He ordered that a Special Crime Prevention Unit be immediately deployed to the Coast to monitor the Mombasa Republican Council.

The meeting was informed that police are searching for the Bungoma, Busia attackers who have left at least eight people dead and several others injured and that they are pursuing politicians believed to be bank rolling the attacks.

The Garissa Operation was reported as being a "success' with aliens having been sent back to the refugee camps while others have returned to their country.

Ruto was told that the aliens had disguised themselves as refugees living in camps but they were identified and deported in order to help curb the rising insecurity in the region.

The security meeting was attended by Internal Security Ministry Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo and Deputy Inspector General of Police Grace Kaindi among other top security officials.
