Gambia: Happy Birthday, Observer

Saturday is our 21st birthday. On this auspicious day, we would not do justice to ourselves without saying 'a big thank you' to our proprietor, staff, readers and clients. We are saying thank you all because we are celebrating this birthday at a time when not only the mission of the company -educating, informing and enlightening the people of this country so that they can develop a positive conscience to partake in national development has remained unaltered, but also our 21st birthday has come amidst great achievements and transformation. All of it is made possible because the proprietor, readers and clients trust us and allow us to stay in business. Above all, we are much indebted to the young staff that today has taken the Daily Observer to another level. Besides, it is always befitting to say congratulations to people who in one way or the other registered significant success stories in their lives, especially our loved ones and co-workers. However, the word 'congratulations' does not come out of a vacuum; it comes out of hard work and commitment to duty as indicated in the words of wisdom concerning the need for all able-bodied human beings to work and earn their living from the sweat of their labour.

The Observer Company has been known for a remarkable editorial policy, chief amongst them is giving accurate information to the Gambian populace both within and outside. This is done with specific reference to the pace of development projects and programmes initiated and implemented by the government of The Gambia. The Gambian leader's emphasis on the need for Gambians to be hardworking and committed to the development of the country is borne out of the strong conviction that nobody will come outside of The Gambia to develop the country for us.

It is also done out of our realisation and conviction that every good institution has a mission and vision; to this end, bravo to the young staff of the Observer Company for a job well done.

We live in a modern and competitive age, which calls for employing of creative and innovative ideals for the benefit of all. 21 years on, this paper has been waxing stronger than ever before, thanks to the able, efficient and dedicated staff and the encouraging support received from the proprietor and the readers.
