Kenya: Sh232 Million for Rongai Road

KAJIADO Deputy County Commissioner Hassan Bulle yesterday said more than 500 properties on a road reserve in Kitengela will be demolished in two weeks. Several schools, churches, highrise buildings will be brought down Local Kenya Urban Roads Authority engineer Joseph Ntibiri said Sh232 million for the construction of a new road has been released by the Treasury.

Residents living along the road told County Commissioner Arthur Osiya that it was not their that their property is on the reserve. They claim that they bought land had been demarcated by government surveyors and titles issued the Lands ministry.

"We toiled to buy land and here you are demanding us to leave, where do you want us to go and yet we have titles for the proprty?" asked one of the affected land owners. Ntibiri said a wall fence between Kitengela branch of KCB and the Nairobi/Namanga road will be brought down because it is sitting on a road reserve.

The massive multi-million building housing the KCB is owned by the family of the late George Saitoti. While Saitoti was alive he blocked all attempts to bring down the fence when the the multimillion Nairobi-Namanga road was under construction in 2011.
