Nigeria: DPP Crisis - Party Disbands Merger Committee

10 May 2013

The Crisis rocking the Democratic People's Party (DPP) has taken a new dimension as the faction controlled by the former Minister of Federal Capital (FCT), General Jerry Useni (rtd) Friday met and dissolved the committee set up to engage with other opposition parties in merger negotiations.

At the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the faction held in Abuja, the party expelled Mr. Olusameka Akamukali, former Acting Deputy National Chairman of the party, for anti-party activities and subsequently appointed Mr. Gashon Benson from Rivers State to replace him.
