Kenya: USAID to Work With Machakos On Devolution

The United States Agency for International Development will conduct a pilot project to assist Machakos county in training and capacity building on devolution.

USAID mission director in Kenya, Karen Freeman said the county would also benefit from education and youth programs.

"Machakos was the first county to have a cabinet in place and we are going to begin with you because of the seriousness you have shown in establishing the devolution structure," she said.

Freeman said she was also impressed by the county's decision to host a three-day investment conference adding that she will impress upon US firms to participate.

She was speaking yesterday at governor Alfred Mutua's office after holding talks with him and some of his cabinet members.
