Tunisia: Police, Supporters of 'Ansar Al-Sharia' Clash in Ettadhamen Neighbourhood

Ariana — Security forces and supporters of "Ansar al-Sharia" clashed on Sunday at the Ettadhamen neighbourhood in Tunis.

Members of this Salafist movement, who were seeking to hold a rally at a local avenue, were dispersed by the police who used tear gas. Protesters responded by throwing stone, TAP correspondent on site noted.

Supporters of "Ansar al-Sharia" also claim the liberation of spokesman for their movement Seifeddine Raies who was arrested on Sunday in Kairouan.

The official Facebook page of "Ansar al-Sharia" had announced the arrest of Raies on Sunday morning and called on supporters of the movement who were en route to Kairouan from different governorates, particularly Tunis (Ettadhamen and Al Intilaka neighbourhoods) to cancel their travel after the Interior Ministry's decision to ban their congress scheduled Sunday in Kairouan.
