Namibia: Welder Reaps Handsomely From Innovation

Windhoek — Fifty-year-old welder, Haipinge Shatilwe from Endola, a village in the Ohangwena Region embodies the outcomes of a combination of an entrepreneurial spirit and the quality of skills obtained from a local vocational training centre.

Shatilwe has always wanted to be a welder, even before he underwent vocational training at the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre in the late 1980s. Today his business - Ipinge Exhaust System - has secured lucrative contracts to supply bull-bars and tow-bars to major vehicle dealers in the country, including Pupkewitz Motors, one of the biggest pick-up vehicle retailers that owns the franchise rights for Toyota, Nissan and GMW pick-up vehicles in Namibia.
