Many African nations are booming, and despite high population growth, the proportion of people living in extreme poverty has declined by 16% over the last decade.

As African governments accelerate efforts to transform their economies and boost growth, there are growing demands to ensure that growth is equitable and benefits all African citizens.

Against this backdrop, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) deadline is now fewer than 1,000 days away. As the world takes important decisions on the post-2015 agenda, it's a make or break moment to build on and accelerate progress to ensure we achieve the current MDGs.

The 2013 DATA Report will offer a unique, comprehensive assessment of overall MDG progress on a country-by-country basis and also reveal individual country progress in sub-Saharan Africa, showing some great progress from 'trailblazers', but also a number of countries that are off track or performing very poorly.

The report also contains an analysis of African government spending on education, agriculture and health, and how this corresponds to progress on the MDGs. This is the first time such an analysis has been made.
