Africa: How Africa's Richest Could Transform Education

These days, every country dreams of setting up a world class university. In many cases, the universities are modeled after the Ivy League universities in the US, or Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the UK. In Africa too, the role of higher education is beginning to take a significant prominence.

For example, Ashesi University in Ghana is evolving to be a regional education powerhouse in West Africa. Its founder, Patrick Awuah, a former Microsoft millionaire, believes that quality higher education is the only way to transform the continent. Similarly, in South Africa, The Africa Leadership Academy, a school that admits teenagers from Africa and beyond, is proving to be a quality feeder school for top universities in the world.
