Uganda: Controversy Brews Over Roasted Chimpanzee Meat

Two men sought Police protection after residents threatened to lynch them over accusations of eating chimpanzee meat. The LC1 chairman of Mabale village in Bwikara sub-county, Kibaale district, Julius Kabera, said two men, identified as Wilson Kwoyenda and the other identified only as Dan from Katikengeye village, are accused of hiding some parts of the chimpanzee for unknown reasons.

The parts that were allegedly taken by the two men include its private parts, the tongue, kidney and lungs. The chimpanzee was killed by irate residents on Wednesday after it kidnapped a two-year-old child and engaged the residents in a fight, injuring some of them.

Kabera said they suspect that these men could have wanted to use the chimpanzee parts for evil motives. "We asked them where these parts were, but they could not tell us and when residents turned rowdy the men ran to Bwikara Police post for safety," said Kabera.
