Tanzania: Ethnic Clashes Undermine Schools Performance

Mara — Primary school headteachers from villages affected by ethnic clashes in Tarime District recently complained of low pupil turn out and most of those preparing for national standard four and seven exams are bound to perform poorly.

Most of the pupils are reportedly scared to walk to schools for attacks by members of warring factions between different clans of Kurya tribe and at times instructed by their parents to do chores at home such as cattle grazing and farming.
