Ethiopia: Dr. Tedros Holds Talks With Japan's Foreign Minister

Dr. Tedros held a brief bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida this morning (May 31st) to discuss bilateral matters and the Ministerial Pre-conference meeting .On the occasion, Fumio, Kishida, thanked Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalgen for accepting the request to co-chair the TICAD V Summit which will open tomorrow.

In their discussion about trade and investment matters, Dr. Tedros noted that the trade volume between Africa and Japan has not grown much despite strong partnership. He also said, Japanese investment in Africa leaves much to be desired. He further added that a there is a huge investment potential in Africa that guarantees high return on investment and emphasized the need for Japan to work on loan schemes to its investors interested in investing in Africa, citing the positive experience of other emerging economies He ,however underlined that the quality of loans, grants and technical cooperation provided by Japan to African countries is quite beneficial.
