Kenya: County Split Into Three

KAKAMEGA county has devolved into three sub-counties to ease management and delivery of services to the public. The sub-counties to be headed by sub-county administrators follow the boundaries of the three county councils of Kakamega, Butere-Mumias and Lugari.

They have been named Kakamega Central, South and North respectively.

Kakamega central comprises Lurambi, Navakholo, Shinyalu, Ikolomani and Malava constituencies while South has Mumias East and West, Butere, Khwisero and Matungu constituencies. The North sub-region has Likuyani and Lugari constituencies.

"After consultations with local leaders, we agreed that the headquarters for the North region be at Pan Paper in the disused premises that were to house the district headquarters. Central region will be in Kakamega. We are yet to agree on the South region headquarters," said Governor Wycliffe Oparanya at the weekend.
