Daily Observer senior reporter and What's on anchorman, Sheriff Janko, was recently given the Best Entertainment Journalist in The Gambia Award by Star GSM Mobile Company and Star FM Radio.
The award ceremony, which also witnessed the awarding of other entertainment journalists, was held at the Busumbala Multipurpose Hall in Busumbala, West Coast Region.
The award brought together journalists from different media houses, both print and electronic, across the country.
It was also attended by music journalists, musicians and a cross-section of the general public especially music lovers.
The organisers gave kudos to the awardees, saying they all deserve to be awarded. "These journalists have been tirelessly covering and interviewing Gambian artistes for years now, sometimes their job requires them to stay till very late at night just to know what the artistes are doing. We know they are doing a lot in promoting and showcasing talents in the industry," said one of the organisers.

One of the Gambian DJs, T Smallz Susso, said he is a frequent traveler, and acknowlewdged that only journalists can spread information about his performances both in and outside the country.
Kebba Camara from Foroyaa newspaper/Star FM Radio was awarded the Overall Best Gambian Music Journalist, while Sheriff Janko of Daily Observer newspaper and Njie Baldeh came 2nd and 3rd respectively as Best Entertainment Journalists in The Gambia. Other awards went to DJ Muta Baruka of Star FM Radio; DJ Pieces and Lashes of Vibes FM and Mike Promotion in Busumbala.
