Photo: allAfrica.com The search for peace and reconciliation is a continuous process in any postwar nation. In Liberia, the peace and reconciliation is on course, but largely stalled apparent due to lack of commitments on the part of certain political actors and stakeholders.
Past initiatives intended to accelerate the process of restoring genuine peace and reconciliation crumbled because of apparent disagreement and philosophical directions.
Understandably, the Liberian nation is divided as a result of a devastating civil war that took away everything; lives of quarter of a million people, the dignity of the nation, infrastructures destroyed and ten of thousands are currently living in refugee camps.
Liberians and their international partners have been searching everywhere for solution to the peace and reconciliation in the country. Yet, solutions are hard to come.
This time, it seems, the one who might succeed in breaking the jinx associated with reconciling the Liberian people is making real genuine moves to draw the attention of the Liberian people to reconciliation.
Liberia's Peace Ambassador and soccer legend George Weah has concluded final preparations to jumpstart the peace initiative in the country with a Ballon D'or Peace Match on June 22, 2013 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
Appointed last year by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf as head of the peace and reconciliation commission, Ambassador Weah has commenced a process to jumpstart the reconciliation process.
According to reports, the former FIFA World Best Player and his peace commission have invited some of the most celebrated names in African soccer to participate in a one-day peace and reconciliation soccer festival at the SKD sports complex in Paynesville.
