Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, announced on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, that it will prevent road traffic between the Save river and Muxúnguè, and rail traffic in Beira-Moatize and Beira-Marromeu in the Sofala Province. Their claim is to impede the transport of arms and military equipment to the Gorongosa region where the party's leader Afonso Dhlakama is based.

At the same time, Renamo will strengthen the radius of region protection to safeguard the security of its leader, and ban all movements of the rapid intervention Force (FIR). "Renamo forces will be positioned to prevent the movement of vehicles carrying people and goods, because the Government uses these vehicles to carry arms and military personnel in plainclothes, to concentrate in the vicinity of Satungira and attack the President Afonso Dhlakama," said Jerónimo Malagueta, information head of that party.

The announcement was made during a press conference in which Renamo distanced itself from attacks to the storeroom of the armed forces of Mozambique (FADM), in the administrative post of Savane, in the District of Dondo in Sofala, which resulted in the theft of several war material and in the death of seven soldiers.

"The events of Savane, or by another, the assault on supplies of Savane has nothing to do with defence and security forces of Renamo. When Renamo attacked the rapid intervention Force headquarters took over and pointed out the reasons," he explained

For Malagueta, the fact that the Government has been saying that Renamo men perpetrated the assault is just a ploy to trick the Mozambican society and the international community.

"The widespread discontent caused by the exclusion can make arise other Mozambicans to resort to the use of weapons to dislodge this Government that discriminates the Mozambicans, creating an oligarchy that becomes clearly opulent in contrast to the majority of Mozambicans. The attack on the supplies of Savane is the clairvoyant mirror of the contradictions that exist within the Frelimo party, that day after day become more visible ".

We do not want war

In his speech, Malagueta claimed that Renamo does not want war, but "a country of inclusion in all areas of life", and to attack the barracks of FIR does not solve the problem. Thus, the prohibition of movement of vehicles and trains aims to "undermine the logistics of those who cause Mozambicans to suffer, subjecting them to slavery".

"The death of a young man of FIR for the Government does not represent absolutely nothing, because then it recruits more 100 to have them for the war without any proper military preparation. Thus, the Renamo does not want to elect the military or paramilitary youth as their targets, not at least because we do not want war, "he justifies.

Plan to assassinate Afonso Dhlakama

Malagueta denounced an alleged plan to assassinate Alfonso Dhlakama, allegedly orchestrated by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza.

As he explained, the Chief of staff ordered a military offensive in the areas of Marínguè and Inhaminga to attack the protective forces of Renamo and the increase of troops surrounding the District of Gorongosa, in particular where the leader of Renamo is.

To support his words, the head of the "Partridge" invoked the "arrival of more specialized forces such as commands, to Kangalitole, the famous Casa Banana (Banana House), and to the rank of Vandúzi, in the District of Gorongosa. (…) Are currently in Sofala, in addition to the Lieutenant-General Paulino Macaringue, head of the General staff of the armed forces of Mozambique's Defense, and the Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Mussa and other top patents to guide the offensive".

Imports of military equipment

On Friday of last week, arrived in the country, through the port of Maputo, a considerable amount of military equipment imported by the Ministry of national defence. It's about 25 new military trucks carrying large weaponry and 25 other brand vehicles Land Rover with a military character.

The downtown area of Maputo has outmoded military movement that, to what seemed at first glance, they prepared to escort a military Caravan. And, the more the Sun "lurked" on the night that "earned" space, more properly uniformed men were on the streets, replacing the traffic police that were along the Guerra Popular Avenue downtown to the integration with the 24 de Julho Avenue.

No one realized what really was going on. When it was around 9:0 pm, the traffic from the workers Square until 24 de Julho Avenue, through the Guerra Popular Avenue, was conditioned on the North-South direction.

Suddenly we saw a total of 25 new military trucks leaving the port carrying military weaponry, in plain sight, and 25 other brand vehicles Land Rover with a military character, all escorted by two Military police vehicles (PM) of the armed forces of Mozambique (FADM).

The caravan followed in the direction of the Ministry of Defense, on Julius Nyerere Avenue and, from there, it is assumed that part of it left on Tuesday, 18, to the Centre of the country because Renamo says that "more than 35 military trucks and five buses carrying elements of the armed forces and Rapid intervention, as well as war material left to Gorongosa, Marínguè and Inhaminga in order to attack the forces of Renamo ".
