Kenya: Woman Dumps Child in Hospital

Policein Naivasha have arrested a 20-year-old lady who dumped her one-day-old child at the Naivasha District Hospital. Christine Nasimiyu left her child on a wheelchair in the hospital. Nasimiyu gave birth at Kongoni but travelled more than 20km before she dumped the baby near the theatre.

The baby was rescued by a nurse. Nasimiyu said it was her husband who advised her to dump the child, saying it will be taken to a children's home. On reaching home, Nasimiyu's neighbousr asked of the whereabouts of the child. She evaded the questions which led to the mob attacking her. "We rescued her from the mob, which wanted to kill her on suspicion that she had killed the child," said Naivasha Women for Peace chairperson Prity Wanjira. She was taken to Kongoni police station.
