The European Union (EU) has donated three vehicles worth 30.8 million francs ($171,000) to Djibouti's National Office for Assistance to Refugees and Disaster Victims (ONARS), the Djiboutian Information Agency reported Sunday (June 30th).
The vehicles are expected to strengthen the organisation's logistic capacities in responding to humanitarian crises, including drought and unstable food prices.
EU Ambassador to Djibouti Joseph Silva said this gift will help with the speed and efficacy in transferring aid from the capital to the country's rural regions.
Imed Khanfir, acting representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Djibouti, transferred the vehicles on behalf of the European Union.
"WFP continues to support the government of Djibouti to meet the needs of its poorest populations in all five regions of the country," he said.
