IPS: Angola Slow on Drought Response as People Die of Hunger

June 28, 2013: Church groups, local NGOs and international aid organisations have launched appeals to get supplies to drought-stricken southern Angola where people are reported to be dying from a lack of food and water. It is estimated that between half a million and 800,000 people have been affected.

June 27, 2013: On 25 June 2013, human rights defender Mr Emiliano Catumbela was released from prison following a request by the General Attorney's Office. Emiliano Catumbela was arrested on 27 May 2013 while taking part in a vigil at Largo da Independência in Luanda to mark one year since the disappearance of human rights defenders Messrs António Alves Kamulingue and Isaías Cassule.
