Nigeria: Budget Amendment After Passage Unconstitutional, Say Reps

The House of Representatives yesterday said the proposed amendment to the 2013 budget by President Goodluck Jonathan after its passage goes against the provisions of the Nigerian 1999 constitution.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, spokesman of the House, Rep Zakari Mohammed (PDP, Kwara), said the Nigerian constitution does not provide for an amendment to the budget after it has been duly signed into law, rather what it provides is a supplementary budget, which the president ought to have forwarded to the National Assembly.
