Southern Africa: Intra-Trade Increases Since SADC Protocol

Walvis Bay — Trade within the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) has increased since the implementation of the SADC Protocol on Trade, which has been in effect since January 25, 2000.

Exports increased from US$5.8 billion in 2000 to US$11.7 billion in 2010. Intra-SADC trade as a percentage of SADC's total trade has however remained stagnant at roughly 15 per cent over the entire period of implementation.
