Somalia: Ship Held By Pirates Sinks Off Somali Coast

A ship under pirate custody since 2010 sunk off the coast of Somalia with the whereabouts of its 15 crew members unknown, the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) announced Monday (July 8th).

The Malaysian-flagged MV Albedo was captured by pirates in the Indian Ocean in November 2010. It was anchored off the Somali coast when it sank in rough seas.

EU NAVFOR and maritime patrol aircraft have closed the area to traffic and are carrying out a search-and-rescue operation.
