Djibouti-Addis Ababa Railway Construction Launched

Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on Sunday (July 7th) inaugurated construction of an 800-kilometre railway connecting Addis Ababa, Dewele and Djibouti City, the Ethiopian government announced in a press release.

Construction is commencing at the Nagad Railway Station in Djibouti.

"The infrastructure will advance economic co-operation and social connections between the two sisterly countries," Guelleh said.

The Djiboutian and Ethiopian government will share the cost of the $4.5-billion project, according to Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tedros Adhanom.
