Nigeria: 'No New Polio Case in Zamfara'

Gusau — Since last year, Zamfara State has not recorded any new case of poliomyelitis, wife of the state governor, Hajiya Asmau Abdulaziz Yari, has said.

Speaking at the capacity building workshop organized for wives of traditional rulers in the state, Hajiya Asmau said the state government has continued to ensure that Zamfara children receive immunization and other survival interventions that would scale down mortality rate in the state.

"This has culminated in the recognition of the state with the winning of the Bill & Melinda gate foundation award. Zamfara will continue to pursue vigorously this important component of national development where every eligible child will receive safe and potent immunization", she said.

She appreciated the traditional rulers for allowing their wives to participate in the workshop, adding they have demonstrated their full support for health interventions aimed at improving the well being of children.

"As we work assiduously with Zamfara government and indeed Nigeria to make the country safer for children, we have to ensure that all preventable childhood killer diseases are eradicated", she said.
