The reappointment of Madam Mary Broh at the Monrovia City Corporation by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has spark miss reactions among many Liberians from diverse backgrounds. The embattled former acting mayor of Monrovia resigned in the wake of numerous controversies surrounding her duties at the city corporation and her ugly ripple with the National legislature. FrontPage Africa has been gathering the reaction of Liberians regarding Madam Broh's resurfacing at the MCC:
Gabriel Lewis: "I want to say clearly that Mary Broh coming back to be the City Mayor is welcoming. If you observe over the past time that Mary Broh left, the city is completely dirty. Since the president has appointed her we hope that the legislature will confirm her. I have that believe in them and we are urging them that they should confirm madam Broh to see how best to keep our city clean. Mary Broh was actually doing well but all human has some lapses. I think since she has come on board, she should see how to forget some of those bad practices and move the city forward. Due to the pressure especially from the House the only thing she could do was to give chance to others to see how best they could help in the process. But mind you, see the capital city which is completely dirty. And when Broh comes back today you will see what will go on in the city. I want to inform the president that she's on the rightful track although there are some lapses; we welcome the idea of Broh coming back."
Musa M. Kamara: "I am totally against Madam Broh to go back at the city hall as City Mayor. That has showed a complete weakness and it will prove that if our lawmakers allow her to ascend they are a commercial lawmaker. Mary Broh knows the work, I must admit. Her presence at city hall brought so many changes in Montserrado but her attitude as a city mayor contravenes what she stands for. Because the way in which she used to beat on people and walk in the people resident to damage houses even sometimes when she is wrong and the president can't say anything about it, I am totally against and am not in support of her coming back at that post. I am appealing to the senate that any attempt by the senate to allow Mary Broh to walk in the house to reinstate her we will hold them hostage for that day. And if Mary Broh enters the city hall as city mayor we will pull her out. Because I know when Mary Broh goes as city mayor she will start kicking our people and many of our people will be admitted at hospitals."
J. Francis: "I feel that the reappointment of Madam Broh is not a mistake and I think the senate should be wise enough to confirm her. Because we observed that the absence of this madam from the city hall has created some problems in our communities. I live in Logan town and since she left from the office the work of the city Mayor has not been active. Main streets like Broad Street which used to be very clean are no longer the same. So I think Mary Broh coming back is welcoming news. All that needs to be done is to talk to her to control her emotion as she goes about dealing with Liberian citizens. I say bravo to the president that she has reappointed Mary Broh. All the President should do and even the senate too is to advice her to control her emotion because looking at the society that we are in now, I see Mary Broh to be the right person for that job. I am of the strongest conviction that Mary Broh will go through the senate confirmation and she will be confirmed as Mayor of Monrovia."
Jasetta Cooper: "To be frank, Mary Broh was missed by everyone within the country because when Monrovia is clean all fell good. So Mary Broh was actually missed and if she's coming back it's going to be a good one. People will admire the government for that especially the president. Mary Broh was a motivation to people she worked with. She did not only sit in her office. She was in the field with the people and on the overall she was a very proactive leader. I want to inform madam Broh that coming back is another thing but she should work on her emotion, that's the only problem I have with her. Attitude problem is very great with Mary Broh. She should work on her emotion, how she deals with people, and how she talks to people."
Moses Saah: "Actually when I heard that Madam Broh got reappointed I felt so much excited. Because there are lot of things that she has done for this sitting. The lady has the potential to do that job. I was also angry with Madam Sirleaf why she didn't appoint her at the public works ministry. Because that's the main area I was expecting for madam Broh to be appointed. The few time that Madam Broh has been out we can see that the city has been too much dirty. And the man who was appointed has been complaining that he cannot able to do the job."
Ayubah K. Dulleh: "I think that for the Madam to reappoint Mary Broh at the Monrovia City Corporation is a joke and mockery to the Liberian people. Mary Broh has been at the taste of the people. People have called for her removal. Most of the times we saw Mary Broh in fact lashing at government officials even down to lawmakers so coming this time around the madam reappointing Mary Broh and many at times people have been saying that the madam has been running this government on friendship. And Mary Broh should have been kept out of the city corporation ever since. Is there nobody else that is competent to perform the city Mayor task? That's the question that needs to be answered by the madam. She must not mind because this is her last time she cannot have public interest again. The coal tar she is laying when it comes to her legacy, this may affect her legacy. She has been doing whole lot of lapses in the government and she continues to run the government on the basis of friendship. So she should desist from this that Mary Broh should be appointed to the city corporation. We think this is a joke. What we want to tell the senate is that if they compromise the interest of the Liberian people this time around we are going to the ballot box and we will exercise our franchise through the ballot box."
Momo V. Sheriff: " I think is a positive decision by our President to bring Madam Broh back in the system though it was not in the interest of some Liberians when Mary Broh resigned. We really want to see Mary Broh coming back as a City Mayor due to her level of work. You can see some transformation that was taking place in the city, so it's a welcoming drive by the President. We have a serious problem with the Madam Broh with regards to her attitude. I think that's the only problem I see with the madam but she's very hard working. The only advice I have for her is if she comes back she should be more moderate by working in the confine of the constitution. We need hard workers and people that very much vigilant in doing their work."
Bill M. Quisee: "We have to take a critical look at the reappointment of Mary Broh at the City Corporation because when she was serving that position she maltreated employees and that of several citizens in Monrovia. And now she has been reappointed by the president. When she resigned, she needed to be audited. But instead of been audited, there was management team sent at MCC to safeguard the funds. And when counselor Henry Cooper surfaced at the MCC there was insufficient fund to run the MCC."
