Liberia: Speaker Disappointed

House Speaker, J. AlexTyler has expressed disappointment in President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for re-nominating Madam Mary T. Broh as Monrovia City Mayor.

Speaker Tyler said Madam Broh is not the only qualified Liberian to head the Monrovia City Corporation. He said there are other qualified Liberians who can perform better than Madam Broh if they are given the support.

He frowned that the President who should be promoting the rule of law, has re-nominated Broh, a decision he described as troubling.

Speaking Monday when he appeared on the Bumper Show of the Liberia Broadcasting System, Tyler said the act committed by Madam Broh which led to her subsequent resignation was grave and should not be condoned.

Speaker Tyler said Madam Broh's behavior has the propensity to drive away investors from Liberia.

The House Speaker reaffirmed that the House of Representatives still stands by the decision it took against Broh.

It can be recalled that the House of Representatives several months ago unanimously agreed to bar Madam Broh from holding public office in Liberia as she is a 'non-governmental material.'
