Namibia: Show Jumping Heads for Kapp Stables

Windhoek — A total of 72 horses and their riders will meet at Kapp Stables east of Windhoek for the 2nd KA-NU Show Jumping Championship this weekend.

Following the first qualifier at Nubuamis north of Windhoek last weekend, the local competitors will again come up against strong competition from the six South African riders, who travel to Namibia specifically for this competition.

Two more qualifying rounds will decide whether the 57 entrants in the 80,1.00 and 1.20m classes will go through to the deciding round on Sunday morning.

After having battled it out for the top positions in all five competitions last weekend, local lass Suleika Hasse on Carla Bodenhausen and Sage Pagel on Eagle's Lisbon from KwaZulu-Natal are looking to repeat their successes in the 1.10 events with Candice Reusch, also from KwaZulu-Natal joining the fray on Dr Beate Voigts' seasoned horse Salvano.

The 1.20/1.30 competitors, show jumping icon Gail Foxcroft on her locally bred Equifox Olorosso, the Pietermaritzburg couple Lauriane and Martin Minett and Namibian youngster Alexa Rack on Capital Casarey, winner of last year's 1.10 championship event will this weekend be joined by seasoned show jumper Annette Künzle on her stallion Rostock Ritz Rolling Thunder.

In the 1.00m events Lauriane Minett and her Namibian-bred Milling Technique Zonjati Bonny Clyde will do battle against the local riders Detlef Fischer, Manfred Falk and Salom Nghinamito, as well as the trio of junior girls Nita Pallet, her sister Elsa and Sophia Louw.

The lower classes too promise good competition following the excellent performances of the mother and daughter pair of Annette and Linda Freyer, as well as Caitlin Calitz, Sonja Kipping-Thirion, Michelle Leuschner and junior Alexa Denker the previous weekend.
