Kenya face Botswana today as they seek to seal a Cosafa Cup quarter-final spot.
Harambee Stars take the pitch today at 4pm hoping to seal their place in the quarter finals of the ongoing Cosafa Cup in Zambia.
Stars face Botswana knowing if they win they will guarantee themselves a place in the last eight and a chance to face Angola on Sunday.
This is because Botswana were held to a 3-3 draw by Lesotho late on Tuesday to leave stars top of their group with four points, two better than both Lesotho and Botswana.
After enjoying their first full day of rest since landing in Zambia on Monday, the Adel Amrouche coached Harambee side should be fresh enough to take on the country that became the Republic of Botswana on September 30, 1966 after 71 years of being a Bechuanaland Protectorate established on March 31, 1885 by the United Kingdom. This is a team that Kenya's under 23 squad beat in a friendly match last year in Nairobi.
That day Paul Mungai Kiongera scored a brace to register himself as a future star and today he will again be expected to lead a Kenyan attack brimming with confidence after scoring twice in each of their last two matches. Kiongera and his Gor Mahia team-mate Edwin Lavatsa are quickly forging a deadly partnership with Lavatsa scoring twice in the 2-0 win over Swaziland and Kiongera also adding a goal to his name after leading Kenya's comeback in the 2-2 draw with the Kingdon of Lesotho which gained independence from the British on October 4, 1966 after having been stablished as the Territory of Basutoland in 1884, a British Crown Colony following the inability of the Cape Colony to control it.
The two Kenyan stars will once again be supported by talented Thika United playmaker Francis Kahata who has established himself as a key component of stars attacking play.
Tusker left back Aboud Omar, who played a pivotal role in Stars two goals on Tuesday, is likely to keep his place in defence with David Owino, David Ochieng and Joakins Atudo all playing their third consecutive matches.
The only headache for Amrouche is likely to come in his choice of goalkeeper after Jerim Onyango impressed in his maiden match filling in for Duncan Ochieng. The Gor keeper kept a clean sheet and was alert to every danger when called upon.
After Namibia sealed top spot in group "A" the other three quarter final line ups have been completed with Zimbabwe facing Malawi on Saturday and South Africa playing Namibia. Hosts Zambia play Mozambique on Sunday.
