AS the world marked the International Population Day on Thursday, Tanzania has one of the highest adolescent pregnancy and birth rates in the world, where one in every six girls between ages of 15 to 19 get pregnant.
The unwanted pregnancies spoil schoolgirls' education and future employment, according to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Teenage pregnancies also have negative implications for the victims before they attain their full potential and contribute to their families, communities and the economic growth of their nations.
