Liberia: Commerce Fines Caroline Frozen Food Center

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has fined the Caroline Frozen Food Center Incorporated US$1000.00 for unhygienic conditions within its business premises. The Caroline Frozen Food Center situated in Sayon Town on the Busrod Island was fined the amount following an inspection tour of its premises by Deputy Commerce Minister for Administration and Officer-in-Charge Mr. Cyril Allen Jr. with officers of the Standard Division of the Ministry on Tuesday, July 9, 2913.

Accordingly, Minister Allen mandated the Caroline Frozen Food Center to correct the filthy state of affairs of it premises immediately. He further warned that failure to do the necessary thing would lead to a suspension of the company's import license.

The company was requested to pay the full amount of the fine into the Government's coffers within forty-eight hours at the Central Bank of Liberia and present a copy of the payment receipt to the office of the Inspector General of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

A communication from the Commerce Ministry also noted that failure on the part of the Caroline Frozen Food Center to comply with the mandate of the Ministry would lead to the closure of the entity.

In recent time, it was observed that the Caroline Frozen Food Center was selling rotten fish to marketers, a situation which prompted the action of the Commerce Ministry.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commerce Minister for Public Affairs Mr. Rufus D. Neufville has disclosed that the Ministry will be holding weekly press briefings to acquaint the public with major development unfolding within the country's commerce and trade.

Minister Neufville then urged the public to report to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry any unfair business practice that would turn to harm the Liberian people.
