In a new escalation of attacks targeting Sinai, unidentified gunmen attacked four army and police checkpoints in Rafah and Arish. Gunmen opened fire at an army checkpoint in front of Rafah municipal council using RPG and attacked Sukkar, Al-Mahager and Al Matar checkpoints on Al-Arish ring road.

Security sources said members of the checkpoint exchanged fire with the gunmen who fled away, whereas apache helicopters chased them in the neighboring agricultural areas.

These attacks left two soldiers wounded. The injured were rushed to Rafah Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, security sources said crackdowns left five terrorist elements killed, thus bringing the number of killed terrorists since June 30 to 37 and 42 seriously wounded.
