Angola: Writers Union to Debate Waldemar Bastos' Career On Wednesday

Luanda — The more than 20-year music career of the Angolan singer and composer Waldemar Bastos will be debated in a space dubbed "Meeting with Waldemar Bastos", to be held on Wednesday at the premises of the Angolan Writers Union (UEA).

According to a press note from UEA sent to Angop on Monday, the act will start at 6 p.m and will count on the participation of journalists, writers, musicians, students and fans of this famous Angolan singer.

Speaking to Angop on Monday, Waldemar Bastos said that it is indispensable for the Angolan artisit to do things as there are facts and driving force for the world valorise that does not come from anybody else.

"We must be proud of our values ", said Waldemar Bastos.

Waldemar Bastos was distinguished in May this year in the category Word of the International Songwritting Competition, with the song entitled "Sofrimento", of his album "Pretazul", released in 1997, Waldemar dos Santos Alonso de Almeida Bastos, known as Waldemar Bastos, was born in MBanza Kongo city, northern Zaire province, on 4 January in 1954.

He started singing at his early age, using his father's instruments. After the independence of Angola in 1975, the artist travelled to Portugal, at the age of 28.

The singer released various CD such as "Estamos Juntos", 1983,"Angola Minha Namorada", 1989,"Pitanga Madura", 1992, "Pretaluz", 1997, "Pretaluz-blacklight (Luaka Bop)","Renascence (World Connection)", 2004, and "Love Is Blindness", 2008.
