Liberia, China Sign U.S.$16 Million Agreement

A US$16 million grant agreement has been signed between the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Chinese Government, represented by the Chinese Technical Team for the renovation of infrastructures at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

The renovation of the stadium comes barely three years after it was reconstructed by the Chinese Government as one of many infrastructure development projects pledged to the people of Liberia.

Mr. Yi Xuebo, Senior Engineer and Chief of Chinese Technical Team for the project revealed that funding for the renovation work will be made possible by the Chinese Government through the grant project.

Xuebo said the renovation work will be inclusive to cover all areas of the stadium including other areas outside of the stadium. He said design for the renovation of the stadium will be carried out and thereafter the technical aspect will commence.

Although the Chinese Engineer did not provide information regarding the duration of the project, but said the renovation will be comprehensive and will include all areas of the complex.

He added that it is the hope of the Chinese Government that the renovation of the stadium will give the stadium a new picture for the people.

For his part, Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe lauded the Chinese Government and people for assisting the people of Liberia.

Minister Nagbe commended China and said the Chinese Government has proven to be a good and reliable partner to the people of Liberia.

He said structure enhancement will be part of the renovation as the electronic score board will be captured under the agreement. He said it is not the first time China has helped Liberia in youth and sports. He recalled the ongoing reconstruction of a new Monrovia Vocational Training Center financed by the Chinese Government.
